"Barefoot Days and Chalky Hands: A Vineyard Summer Backyard Session" Crawford Family

Morning coffee, rocking chairs, bare feet in the grass, dancing kids, and a slow summer morning that reminded us how sweet and simple life can be. Kids filled the yard with movement, dancing, laughing, chalky hands, and lollipops. Everyone was playing with the kids and letting the morning unfold without rules.

“Slow Summer Moments: A Cozy Backyard and Beach Storytelling Session”

We spent a relaxed afternoon in their backyard. The kids watched the chickens, ran barefoot, touched blooming sunflowers, and smelled fresh basil. Later, at the beach, they played in the sand while Michael skipped rocks with his dad, and we all watched the sun set over the water.

This morning’s session at Mosher Beach in Aquinnah was pure magic—soft golden light, ocean breeze, and the stunning cliffs standing quietly in the background. I’ve been photographing this family since their engagement, through their wedding, and now five summers of watching their children grow. Each year, it’s like catching up with old friends—seeing how much the kids have changed while so much about their bond stays the same.

Recently, I spent the morning photographing a beautiful family who wanted to capture just that: a glimpse into their real, everyday moments, in the home and backyard where their lives unfold so vibrantly.

55th Wedding Anniversary Celebration in Menemsha

Linda and Bob recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in Menemsha, where they honeymooned years ago. You will see the photos from the 2, 3 years and 1 year towards the end. It’s a bit backwards :) Enjoy!

Martha's Vineyard Family Portraits | Part 2

My approach is to capture families in an honest, artful, and storytelling way. I enjoy documenting moments of your children being playful, interacting with their siblings, and engaging with you. It's about connection, not perfection.  My family sessions are child-led. It is a method that allows the children to explore their environment at their own pace, and we follow their interests.

It's the time of the year when I look back at all the memories I created for families last summer. Each family and sessions are so different from the other. The first session in this blog post felt like an adventure for the family. We ran and laughed, played with the sand and water, climbed the dunes, watched the sunset, and slowed time down.

Family Portrait Session at the Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary in West Tisbury

Kelly’s family lives on the island year-round, and as a family, they love to explore different walking trails on the island. The Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary is on a list of favorites. It requires a bit of hiking to get to the beach through the woods. This location is perfect for an off-season session from November to April because they close the gate at 5:00 pm in the summer, which is when I start my sessions.
