This past Christmas season, Avery got down on one knee and asked Sara to marry him at Edgartown Lighthouse Beach on Martha's Vineyard. The picturesque setting of the beach made for the perfect backdrop for the proposal. Capturing this special moment was an honor as a photographer.
Katie and Nick have a special love story that started back in Junior High School in Oregon. Years later, after college, they reconnected and began dating. In April 2022, Nick proposed to Katie at Brant Point Lighthouse on Nantucket, a moment they will never forget. Nick to have their engagement photos taken on this beautiful island, known for its natural beauty and peaceful surroundings. I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown in September 2023.

Chad had a unique idea for his proposal. Before coming to the Edgartown lighthouse, Kate and he joined a wine tasting at the Harbor View Hotel. At the end of their wine tasting, the guide told them to head to the lighthouse to meet “another guide” at 5 pm for our “final tasting.”

When I turned my back to find a prop so we could capture a picture of us and the sunset, I turned around to him being down on one knee. He asked me to marry him, to which I immediately replied yes, and we ended up watching the sunset and talking on the beach for hours. The rest of the evening, we held each other and laughed while sharing this incredibly special and intimate moment."

My goal during this engagement session was to tell the story through light and composition and to highlight the authentic landscape Martha's Vineyard. You can tell where my couple was and who they are through capturing the candid moments and emotions between them. I tried to focus on guiding them versus posing and gave a lot of space to simply be in the present moment by looking at the ocean from the dunes, taking a beach walk, and watching the sunset.

The Edgartown Lighthouse Harbor is one of the most popular locations for a surprise proposal on Martha's Vineyard. Benjamin planned a distinctive winter proposal, and the golden hour light this time of year has magic to it! On the day of the proposal, I decided that it would be best to drive to the South Beach in Katama to see the sun setting in the ocean towards the end of the session.
